Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are very common in adults and children alike. The urinary tract consists of two main parts referred to as upper (kidney and ureters) and lower (bladder and urethra). The symptoms of infection in these areas often differ greatly. An upper UTI poses a higher risk of complications as it can spread to the kidneys rapidly which can be very painful and also very dangerous if not treated in time. Urinary tract infections are far more common in women than men with around two thirds of women experiencing at least one in their lifetime. This is because of the difference in the anatomy; females have shorter urethras, making the path to the bladder easier for bacteria to reach. Females' urethras are also closer to the rectum than men's urethras are, providing a shorter distance for bacteria to travel. Urinary tract infections are also very common amongst the elderly and can go undiagnosed as a secondary infection for a long time as the symptoms can be very vague.
Symptoms of Lower UTI/Bladder Infection/Cystitis
- Lower back pain
- Burning or shooting pain on urination
- Cloudy discoloured urine
- Blood in your urine, this is known as 'haematuria'
- A feeling of needing to urinate very frequently even when there is little or nothing in the bladder.
How Can Colloidal Silver Help to Treat a Lower Tract UTI?
The antibacterial properties of silver have long been known since ancient times. In fact Roman soldiers were encouraged to ingest small silver coins whilst in service as a way of reducing infection in the ranks. Colloidal silver is a solution of microscopic silver particles suspended in a carrier liquid (usually distilled water). The ratio and purity of the silver is measured in parts per millions or (ppm). When buying colloidal silver it should come in a dark glass bottle. Silver is reactive to light and if it comes in a clear bottle this will dramatically lessen its shelf life. Make sure the ionic silver particles are medical grade with an average particle size of 0.001 microns. One of the uses for colloidal silver is as a remedy for lower urinary tract infections.
What to do?
In the treatment of UTIs spray or drop around 1 tablespoon of colloidal silver sub-lingually (under your tongue which enters directly into the blood stream) 5-6 times a day at the onset of symptoms and each day until it has completely passed. You should also add up to 45cl of colloidal silver to a large bottle of water and drink throughout the morning. Continue then, to drink plenty of water all throughout the day as, during a UTI it is vital to drink a lot to help flush out the bacteria that wants to take up camp in your urinary tract. Depending on the severity of the infection symptoms can come on very rapidly and can be severe. Timing is crucial when treating a UTI. It is important to catch it as quickly as possible. The minute you feel the burning sensation or that lower back discomfort, reach for the colloidal silver and also start drinking water continuously. (In saying that; if there is severe pain, a lot of blood in the urine or significant pain in the back then a trip to the doctor a.s.a.p is advised. As mentioned before, upper UTIs can travel very quickly to the kidneys and if this happens IV antibiotics and hospital care is required.
Symptoms of upper UTI - As the complications of an upper tract infection can be more serious, we recommend seeking immediate medical advice but of course it is no harm to take colloidal silver as-well as soon as you feel the symptoms coming on.
- Some or all of the above symptoms, usually more severe
- Fever like temperatures of over 38°C
- Severe back pain
- Vomiting and sickness
- Diarrhoea and stomach upsets
- Shivering and inability to get warm

Other Natural Remedies for Urinary Tract Infections?
Cranberry Juice - It is now known that cranberries contain a powerful substance helping to prevent infection causing bacteria from sticking to the walls of the urinary tract. The exact way this is achieved is still somewhat of a mystery although there are a couple of theories... One recent study suggested that certain antioxidants in cranberries changes the bacteria so that they can't stick to the urinary tract. Another common idea is that cranberries create a slippery coating on the urinary tract walls that prevent infection causing bacteria such as E.coli from getting a good grip.
Apple Cider Vinegar - Apple cider vinegar has a powerful effect on your urinary tract, its powerful antibacterial properties and enzymes make for a beneficial addition to your daily diet even when you are healthy. Taken twice daily with water, ACV will help flush-out bacteria from your urinary tract and eliminate the active infection. ACV is also packed full of potassium and pectin, both of which help to discourage bacterial growth.
