An Apricot Kernel is the seed found in the centre of an apricot pit. They look quite similar to almonds but are smaller and vary in taste from sweet to bitter.
Apricot Kernels are a good source of protein, dietary fibre, healthy fats and vitamin E. They are also a source of amygdalin, sometimes referred to as vitamin B-17.
A quick online search for Apricot Kernels will bring up many results expounding the cancer fighting abilities of amygdalin, claiming it converts to cyanide in the body that then goes on to target only cancerous cells. While it is true amygdalin does convert to cyanide in the body, it does not limit itself to any specific type of cell. However, a moderate intake of Apricot Kernels will only yield tiny amounts of cyanide that are easily detoxified by the body. It is recommended to start with a low number and spread consumption throughout the day to see how your body reacts.
